They strive to provide a welcoming and relaxing service in a timeless setting intended to make you feel at ease.
Catering for up to 70 people, you can go along to enjoy a romantic meal for two, a family meal out or a celebration with friends.
Originally from Piedmont, Franco first came to England to learn English in 1978 and worked in Australia and America before opening his first restaurants, the popular Cambios, in Surrey in 1985. Establishments in Oxfordshire and Berkshire followed and Franco also spent nine years back in Italy with his English wife in the Barolo Wine Region honing his already impressive skills to combine the best that Italy has to offer before returning to establish his latest venture in Brimpton Common.
Sharing the origins of the restaurant’s name – La Capanna, Franco commented: “Because the building has a thatched roof and La Capanna in Italian is a building made with stone, bricks or canes with a roof made with hay or Straw, we chose the name to reflect the nature of the building.”
Speaking of the menu, Franco shared: “We aim to produce the same authentic and quality food that we do in Italy with favourites that you do not often have the chance to experience outside of Italy. Restaurant favourites include: La Bagna Cauda – A chargrilled Cauliflower steak with steamed onions, new potatoes, cream of red and yellow peppers topped with a delicious piemontese Bagna Cauda sauce. As well as Ox Cheek cooked in a rich red wine sauce served with cream of potatoes.
Popular pasta dishes in both starter and main course sizes include Black Linguine with olive oil, chilli, garlic, cherry tomatoes and king prawns and Homemade Egg Tagliatelle with a Rich Lamb Ragu. Tempting desserts include the ever-popular Panna cotta and Tiramisu. And, if you don’t want to cook in the evening after a scrumptious lunch, we would highly recommend taking some pizza home with you to keep your Italian experience going into the evening.”
In addition to the extensive A La Carte Menu, La Capanna offers a superbly priced set lunch menu Tuesday to Saturday.
